That has been pretty common lately, it isn't just plum cards. Amex has been keep close eyes on people's charges and asking them to pay early if spending is out of their normal pattern. If you're new to Amex, it takes sometime to gradually build up what they will allow you to spend. Are they asking you to pay your bill early?
